Out Ranking Matt Cutts

All right, I probably won’t ever be able to say this again so I will now…I OUT RANK MATT CUTTS IN THE GOOGLE RESULTS.

All right, it’s not for the most competitive term in the world, nor is it something really targeted often. After viewing some server stats I found this rather surprising referral from google for, Maile Ohye. Last week I did a post commending the Google team on their increased web presence, and I’m going to update that as soon as the January figures are in, I think they’ll look even better with the latest surge. In that post I mentioned Maile Ohye as being one of the contributers.

Well, I’m going to bask in all the glory that is out ranking Matt (for now), and save the screen shot for posterity.

Enigma - Principles of Lust Parts I, II, and III

The voice of Enigma
Part I. Sadness

Part II. Find Love

Part III. Sadness (reprise)

The voice of Enigma

Good evening, this is the voice of Enigma.
In the next hour,
we will take you with us into another world.
Into the world of music, spirit, and meditation.

Turn off the light, take a deep breath, and relax.
Start to move slowly, very slowly,
let the rhythm be your guiding light.

Part I. Sadness

Procedamus in pace
In nomine Christi, Amen
.
Cum angelis et pueris,
fideles inveniamur
.
Attollite portas, principes, vestras
et elevamini, portae aeternales
et introibit rex gloriae
Qius est iste Rex glorie?
.
Sade dit moi
Sade donne moi
.
Procedamus in pace
In nomine Christi, Amen
.
Sade dit moi
qu’est ce que tu vas chercher ?
le bien par le mal
la vertu par le vice
Sade dit moi pourquoi l’ ‘evangile du mal ?
quelle est ta religion ou` sont tes fide`les ?
Si tu es contre Dieu, tu es contre l’homme
.
Sade dit moi pourquoi le sang pour le plaisir ?
Le plaisir sans l’amour.
N’y a t’il plus de sentiment dans le culte de l’homme ?
.
Sade es-tu diabolique ou divin?
.
Sade dit moi
Hosanna
Sade donne moi
Hosanna
Sade dit moi
Hosanna
Sade donne moi
Hosanna
.
In nomine Christi, Amen

(Translation:
Let us go forth in peace
In the name of Christ, So be it
.
We shall find the faithful in the
company of angels and children
.
Lift up ye heads o ye glorious gates,
and be ye lifted up ye everlasting doors,
and the king of glory shall come in.
Who is the king of glory?
.
Sade tell me
Sade give me
.
Shall we proceed in peace
In the name of Christ, Amen
.
Sade tell me
what is it that you seek?
The rightness of wrong
The virtue of vice
Sade tell me why the Gospel of evil ?
What is your religion? Where are your faithful?
If you are against God, you are against man
.
Sade tell me why blood for pleasure?
Pleasure without love?
Is there no longer any feeling in man’s Faith?
.
Sade are you diabolical or divine?
.
Sade tell me
Hosanna
Sade give me
Hosanna
Sade tell me
Hosanna
Sade give me
Hosanna
.
In the name of Christ, Amen )

Part II. Find Love

The principles of lust, are easy to understand,
do what you feel, feel until the end.
The principles of lust, are burned in your mind,
do what you want, do it until you find, love.

The principles of lust, are easy to understand,
do what you feel, feel until the end.
The principles of lust, are burned in your mind,
do what you want, do it until you find, love.

Part III. Sadness (reprise)

Cum angelis et pueris, fideles inveniamur

Super Bowl XLI

Upon further review, the Bears still suck.

How many times must we take this disgrace
Another Bears fan throwing insults in our face
The Packers are the greatest team to ever play the game
Even if from time to time they’ve been a little lame

How could you ever love a team with Jim McMahon
Not even Porky Pig was as big a ham
They got a reputation that’s mostly based on luck
The Bears…Still…Suck

The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
They really really really really really really suck
Yes the Bears…Still…Suck

If you drive to Soldier Field they make you pay a toll
For cripes sake they only won one lousy Super Bowl
They make fun of Wisconsin, but we don’t get upset
Where do you think that they’re all headed every chance they get

We don’t really hold a grudge ’cause this is all in fun
As far as football rivalries we’re both number one
Still we wouldn’t mind seeing Ditka run over by a truck
‘Cause the Bears…Still…Suck

The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
They really really really really really really suck
Yes the Bears…Still…Suck

(All the ladies now) The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
They really really really really really really suck
Yes the Bears…Still…Suck

(Everybody now) The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
They really really really really really really suck
Yes the Bears…Still…Suck…HEY !!

Update 1/30/07 - As a badge of honor I’m saving a screen shot of the google results for today, showing this blog in the #1 spot for “Bears Really Suck”.

Google Webmaster Group Participation

Google Groups

2/5/07 - Updated graphs available here, with a bit of a correction.

If you look for any help on Google’s Webmaster Help Center eventually you will find a link to Google’s discussion group for webmasters.

Participation in the group has been growing since it’s inception in June 2005

group.jpg

One benefit to the group is that you get real answers from real employee’s of Google. It’s really the only method for communication between a webmaster and someone at Google. Other methods such as email don’t exist and un-official forums such as Matt Cutts blog or webmasterworld don’t have the endorsed-take-it-to-the-bank official status of being from Google.

Up to six different employees participate: Adam Lasnik, Vanessa Fox, Thu Tu, Maile Ohye, Google Employee, and Jonathon Simon.

Their numbers through the months are:

participation.jpg

What are the odds that you may actually get an answer to your specific questions? Well they are not really that great, about 1-1/2 in 100.

Trending shows a slight decrease in Google Input Lately

It should be noted that a lot of topics have been covered in great detail through the 61,000 plus that are archived. A better navigation and FAQ (frequently asked questions) system needs to be developed to make that information more accessible and usable but from what I understand that is in the works.

Primatene Mist Conspiracy Theory

Primatene Mist is not available anymore on most store shelves. The good ones have a notice that there has been a problem in manufacturing, which can be also viewed online.

The note linked to above doesn’t mention a time frame but in speaking with a few pharmacists they said it would be about a few months. This seemed odd to me, as my years in product distribution has taught me one thing, anything is possible if you throw enough money at the problem. The Bunker Buster was one example I could think of.

Further investigation into the Primatene Mist situation also revealed that all generic versions are also unavailable, even though they clearly state on their labels that they are not manufactured by the same company, Wyeth Consumer Healthcare. I also stumbled upon this little FDA Considering ban of Primatene Mist news story

Conspiracy Theories

1) We can conclude that the generic versions offered by Walgreen’s and Walmart are in fact manufactured by the same company, or at least the main key component of them are, as a disruption in the supply chain for Wyeth Consumer Healthcare clearly has affected their supply as well.

2) In light of the possible FDS ban on Primatene Mist based solely on the fact that it is not yet ruled an essential drug, what is a better way to prove the drugs worth by cutting it off from the estimated 700,000 users for a while. The outcry and people left wheezing will be a testament to the usefulness of the drug.

Unfortunately there are no over the counter solutions comparable to Primatene Mist. The users of the drug will be forced to seek medical treatment and prescription drugs, many of which cannot afford it.

At Amazon

There are several online resources still available for the product if your local seller is out, one is oddly enough Amazon, the book selling site.

On Ebay

Another option is to buy un-opened and sealed containers of Primatene Mist from consumers on ebay.

WOW, Great Job Google

It’s been less than a week since I made the transition from a blogger publishing format to the new wordpress powered blog.  When I did that some of the old posts and URLs changed a bit, the archives moved, labels were now categories, etc.  I set up automatic redirects that sent a header response of 301 (permanent).  I also uploaded a new sitemap file in google’s webmaster tools.

Checking today, and some of the old URLS are now already changed in the index, updated to the new format and locations.  I am really impressed.  Checking the stats it took 2 days for the site to be completely re-crawled after the change, then it looks like they cam back and checked a smaller proportion a day or so later.  Yahoo on the other hand has been crawling like mad, but has yet to update their index.  MSN, well really who cares?  They send so little traffic it’s statistically insignificant.

Wordpress MU

I’ve been playing around with a wordpress multi-user installation on two domains. It’s not nearly as user friendly as regular wordpress. Seems like every plugin and theme I install needs extensive work to make it function, but it’s coming along.

Eventually the goal is to give people a place to start their free wordpress blog and when they are ready to move to their own hosting enviroment we can do that for them, including 301 redirects from the old domain to the new domain.

Odie, has been busy working on some artwork for the project.

Move Should Be Complete

The move from godaddy’s free hosting to my own multiple account on Site5 should be about 95% done right now, let me know if you find any broken links or come up with an error.

Importing the blogger site was much more difficult than I originally thought. Wordpress has an option to import from blogger, but apparently that hasn’t been worked on for the new blogger. They’ve only had months to work on it…

Anyway, after playing with importing feeds on comments and the posts, I imputed them all.

Then I had to set up redirects from the old file system in blogger to the new layout. That was a snap with .htaccess.  Much easier than setting up 301 redirects on an IIS situation or even in .asp, much easier.  I’m picking up this ‘nix stuff and working on the learning curve of .php, but so far pretty easy.  I’m not sure if I’ll be switching the ecommerce sites over to .php anytime soon, the tools I’ve written in Excel for Access would be rendered useless in the MySQL database’s, but maybe on a new digital download site I’m developing.
I’m not sold on the photo in the header yet, or even this template, but that’s an effort for another day.
