Matthew James is making me post this…
So I have to set up a technorati account, which means I have to CLAIM my blog, whatever that means.

In the spirit of a previous discussion on the top 13 things that don’t effect PageRank, here is my list of the top 2 things that don’t matter in Google with regards to: Indexing status, supplemental pages, backlink count, number of pages indexed, last crawl date, postion in search result pages, number of referrals, depth of the crawl, or anything else to do with how Google views your site.
Any conversation you start regarding your presence in Google that starts with: But in Yahoo…, In MSN I am…, I have 48 million links in Yahoo!…, etc is by definition wrong.

I’ve heard some concern over people being worried about being penalized for buying links by Google. I found this incredibly germane to our conversation due to my recent sale of over 10,000 PageRank 8 gmail links. So here’s a quick-n-dirty method to put some distance between you and the Paid Link.
The permalink page doesn’t have a nofollow tag on it either in the link or the META. Twitter doesn’t use a robots.txt. The tinyurl utilizes a 301 permanent redirect to the resulting URL.
While you are sending link love to your Tweets, make sure to put a good site in your profile that could also use some links, as that is also shown as a real link.
Viola! there you have it, an easy way to buy 3-way links to your site. Oh it may take a bit longer for you to get the Google Juice, but hey if your buying high quality PageRank 8 links in gmail, they’ll push through quickly.

I’ve seen a lot of seemingly good sites loosing their PageRank completely. It’s propagating through the datacenters like a normal update. Perhaps there is an update coming? Or perhaps, just perhaps, Google has finally disbanded the entire visible PageRank system and we can all get on with our lives after inevitable the discussion dies down. I can only hope.
If they are not disbanding it completely, hopefully they are going to move inside Webmaster Tools along with the link command results. (fingers crossed)
Think of the implications!
I’m sure there are many more, any one else care to elaborate?

Quick hitter: This is often asked by site owners. There are millions of possible reasons, but usually the most likely is that other sites rankings have increased. Study the sites that went up, the answer is usually within those results. Seems like a simple enough concept but almost always overlooked.
Setup
The fire storm that got started when Matt Cutts made a simple call for webmasters to start submarining their competition with reports of paid links got me wondering. Is Google setting a trend here or following one?

I’ve been inadequate in my music video selections lately, here’s a great-old-one just for the video alone, but the song’s good too. I’ll definitely come back and watch this one from time to time.
“..they just got out an walked..”
When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you’re sure you’ve had enough of this life, well hang on
Don’t let yourself go, ’cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes
Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it’s time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you’ve had too much of this life, well hang on
‘Cause everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. Don’t throw your hand. Oh, no. Don’t throw your hand
If you feel like you’re alone, no, no, no, you are not alone
If you’re on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you’ve had too much of this life to hang on
Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts. You are not alone

Danny Sullivan mentions in his post, that pages that get crawled regularly have the date next to them in the search results, where he says:
As it turns out, some pages that Google revisits on a super-fast basis — pages that have dates next to them in the listings…
So I checked this blogs site search, and noticed a little green 4/18/07 next to it.
Off to check other sites of mine, like I say I rarely check these stats anymore, kind of like Adsense, just wait for the check and don’t worry about it.
I found the above link on Twitter, so add me as a friend so I have someone to talk to and don’t look like a crazy person chatting with himself. I had the little badge on the site earlier, but their system is slow and I didn’t like how it affected page load times, so I dumped it.

Recently Matt Cutts of Google fame fired a shot across the bow of website owners everywhere with his post regarding hidden links, different in nature than hidden text. His post sends a clear indication that hidden links is something that the spam team is aware of, and as his points out is a violation of their quality guidelines, which can lead to penalties or full out removal from the index.

Okay, Google has been caching my home page daily, which is nice, but now I feel obligated to give it something to see everyday…
The Windup
More and more I am seeing sites that have suffered in the search results which are heavily laden with affiliate links. After further review, they are not just affiliate links but usually affiliate content as well. You know the kind, the millions and millions of travel affiliate sites that set up spammy looking names like cheap-florida-hotels.cheap-travel-and-viagra.com. Oh people come up with cute foolish names like the -30 penalty or the -950 penalty, but they are all the same; My site used to rank, and today it doesn’t. In other words Google used to like it but now figured out that your site actually suffers from MSSA.

Besides the Matt Cutts announcement that paid links are bad and they are working on way to detect inspect them, there are some other news stories coming out of the plex today:
For other earth shattering news you may want to keep your eyes turned to the blogs, I hear there is a big announcement on gravity coming up soon.
My oldest son, Connor, asked me if I could put him “on the dot com” which is his way of referring to the internet. I was more than happy to oblige him and even included the youngest, Colin.

As all good Cuttlets should do, I submitted my spam report to Google pointing out a site that was blatantly selling links and millions of sites that have bought these links. As proof I offer a partial screen shot of the acknowledgement.
