In the spirit of a previous discussion on the top 13 things that don’t effect PageRank, here is my list of the top 2 things that don’t matter in Google with regards to: Indexing status, supplemental pages, backlink count, number of pages indexed, last crawl date, postion in search result pages, number of referrals, depth of the crawl, or anything else to do with how Google views your site.

  1. Yahoo!
  2. Live (the search engine formerly known as MSN)

Any conversation you start regarding your presence in Google that starts with: But in Yahoo…, In MSN I am…, I have 48 million links in Yahoo!…, etc is by definition wrong.

Did you know Google only has less than 50% of the market-share for search? See http://www.comscore.com/press/release.asp?press=1397 - you might be missing the other half of your traffic :-).

MSN some day my have 98% of the market share. My point being, don’t use your rankings in MSN to justify your conception of a problem in Google. They are two differen entities.

Soooo true. But if you’re in MSLive, chances are that someone will scrape your serps entry (from MSLive), put it online and *then* Google will find a link to your site :). Go, go MS-scrapers!!

I hadn’t thought of the scrapers, we shouldn’t forget the scrapers. GO MSN!

    3. At least that’s what Google says :-).
    4. Google says something else: “There’s almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your ranking or have your site removed from our index.” — note the small word “almost”.
    5. Sure you can pay. You can buy links, you can try to bribe a dmoz editor, your can send JLH lots of money (5+ digits USD$ works best) and he’ll see what he can do. No guarantees, though.
