Thanks guys, I'm working on a graphical explanation, I read through this and my bad writing got in the way of my point.

I'm not an SEO blogger in the sense that what I do is for me. I don't have a vast link network to manipulate for product launches, my budgets for projects are in the dozens of dollars range, I only do site work for others on very rare occasions (like you are a friend who owns a bar and you give me an open tab), I don't get the big insights from my frequent visits to Mountain View, my subscribed readers are in the 10s, I don't get 78 comments when I post a picture of my new camera, and most importantly what I say doesn't make a difference in the SEO world.

I like to combine poor writing skills with a significant lack of inside-the-beltway-information for articles which are hard to read and full of speculation. It's my own unique spin on the process. :)

This is quite a serious post - lots of food for thought plenty to ponder.

And you say you're not an 'SEO blogger'

Great post John! Add search query popularity to your algo analysis and you'll not only explain the "getting links quickly on popular topics" thingy what leads to extreme ranking boosts, but also the "getting links fast w/o demand" negative signal :)
