You've hit the nail on the head about the big difference between GWHG and other SEO forums.
Aside from a couple of users who keep insisting on talking about doing the numbers and using any means fair or foul to get to the top, it's a place where people can actually get 'holistic' advice about their problems from 'real' webmasters without any of the billshut.

It's one of the main reasons I hang around the place.

> THANKS FOR THE BEER. It surly is appreciated.

So you appreciate it it a grudging, gruff, ill-mannered sort of way? ;-)

Thanks for commenting John, Sasch, and Abhilash. To be sure, I receive no remuneration at all for my dribble in the help groups. Just ask Adam Lasnik or Matt Cutts, we've been on opposite sides of public discussions before.

Here's the big difference between GWHG and all the other SEO forums out there. The goal at GWHG is to help people set their sites up for success in Google by doing what Google recommends and mostly wants from them. On most SEO forums the goal is to simply do well in Google, by any means required. You'll read more there about keyword density, varying your anchor text, etc, basically manipulative methods to help improve your rank. At GWHG the place is focused on what you should do to make the site more google friendly, not what trick or shortcut should be used to push the envelope.

And Abhilash, THANKS FOR THE BEER. It surly is appreciated.

JLH, I've watched your participation in the GWHG & on Matt's blog for a long time. I was looking at a thread on which you had commented (surprise there), checked out your profile and saw *prodigious* activity on your part. I don't know if it's altruism or if you're benefitting in some way, but I do want to compliment you on some outstanding help that you've provided to a ton of people. Well done.

I'm even going to sponsor a beer for you. :)

Nice, candid post about the wonders of GWHG...

Now, if we can only get new users to read the FAQ, we've won! ;-)
